With every cigarette you smoke, you’ve lost 5 to 7 minutes of your life. All of the 43 carcinogenic substances you inhale with that cigarette can cause many diseases and numerous cancers. Cancers including the well known lung cancer, and others such as cancer of the mouth, larynx (your voice box), pharynx (your throat), esophagus, kidneys, bladder, and the uterine cervix in women. A disease commonly called “Hairy Tongue” is when the old cells on the tongue fail to shed causing a “hairy” appearance. This is one of the many diseases cigarettes can cause. 8.6 million people have been diagnosed with at least one disease in which cigarettes have caused.

One of the poisons in cigarettes is called nicotine. Nicotine is a highly addictive substance which, if taken in large doses, paralyzes the breathing muscles. Several studies have shown that nicotine is as highly addictive as heroin, cocaine, and alcohol. It is the most common drug addiction in the United States .

Quitting can help the smoker’s health in as early as 20 minutes. In 20 minutes, the blood pressure will drop to normal. After 8 hours, the carbon monoxide level in the blood drops to normal. Between 1 to 9 months, the sinus congestion, fatigue are not as common and the cilia, little hairs lining your respiratory tract, have grown back. After one year of quitting, the smoker’s risk of coronary heart disease is half that of a smoker. Within 15 years, the risk of coronary heart disease is that of a non smoker.

So quit now and prolong your life.
